CYCLING
The Isle of Wight celebrates its highly reputed status as one of the top cycling destinations in the world. Not only are we home to some of the UK’s best scenery, we also have around 200 miles of cycle tracks, byways and bridleways for you to explore. Whether you’re a beginner or a regular cyclist, there are plenty of routes for you to try on the Isle of Wight.
The full Round the Island cycle route is popular with keen cyclists and covers 65 miles. There are a number of ways in which the route can be shortened or split over a few days if you prefer. It’s a hilly route, so be prepared!
Round the Island route
The Round the Island cycle route is guaranteed to provide sea views, hill starts and countryside meanders. Experienced cyclists enjoy the challenge of the full route but the natural breaks at towns make it ideal to split into smaller sections if desired. There are a few variations of the route so you can tailor it to your preferred difficulty level. It is a hilly island though, so whatever you choose, make sure you prepare to work hard! The full, traditional route can be seen in the View Ranger file below.
You can start from wherever it’s convenient for you, but the closest ferry terminals to pick up the route are Yarmouth and Cowes. If you’re arriving on the Island via Ryde, you could pick the trail up from Wootton or Nettlestone depending on your direction of travel.
The route is signposted on blue and white signs. Blue signs with a white Island shape go anti-clockwise, and white signs with a blue island shape take you clockwise.
