STARGAZING

 STARGAZING  Whether you’re a stargazing amateur  or just love looking at the stars don’t miss out on these spots on a clear night 

The Island Planetarium provides regular stargazing events for beginners and enthusiasts alike  as well as a virtual reality astrodome and daily shows during the daytime 

The Isle of Wight Observatory is open to visitors every Thursday evening, with events run by the friendly and welcoming astronomers from the Vectis Astronomical Society 

Or if you just want to go explore the night sky on your own travels I have listed a few of the best places undisrupted from light pollution

Vectis Astronomical Society - Sandown

​We have a superb modern astronomical observatory at Watery Lane, Newchurch, This facility, which was purpose built, houses a 12inch, LX200 Meade ‘Go-To’ computerized telescope. We also have other telescopes and binoculars for specialized use, and a range of computers for all astronomical applications.

The Observatory is open on Thursday from 7.30pm for members and 8.00pm for visitors. Members meet at the Observatory for viewing sessions, or if it is cloudy, projector shows, advice and instruction.

Island Planetarium

We use our virtual reality Planetarium to give you a fascinating guide of what to look for in the night sky each month. We’ll show you how to find your way around the sky and what to see this month. You’ll get a printed monthly sky guide to remind you what to look for. 
If the sky is clear, there’s telescopic and binocular observing, so do come well wrapped up! The whole experience lasts about two hours.

Book by Wednesday of the previous week, we run this event ONLY if more than 10 people have booked.
